Many of the faculty and residents at our program have interest and experience in international medicine. The residency program strongly supports and encourages international
medical electives for residents and faculty as culturally and professionally enriching experiences that can have lasting beneficial effects for physicians. The residency program allows residents to use their annual
continuing medical education benefits to help defray some of the costs of international medical volunteerism. In the past ten years, residents and faculty have participated in volunteer medical missions to Kenya,
Nepal, Ecuador, Peru, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Russia and New Guinea. Medical missions tentatively planned for the coming year include Tanzania and Jamaica, but residents are encouraged to arrange individual
medical missions to areas of interest to them.
