ABOUT HALIFAX MEDICAL CENTER

Halifax Medical Center, our sponsoring institution, is a 764-bed, full-service community hospital and the largest, most comprehensive medical center in East Central Florida. It is our major inpatient facility as well as the home of one of our two Family Health Centers. With over 2700 employees, it is one of the largest employers in Central Florida.

The hospital is a secondary referral center for a population of more than 400,000 people. The Intensive Care Unit has been used as a model for other hospitals. Our state-of-the-art Radiology Department features complete diagnostic facilities including nuclear scanning, PET scanning, CT scanning, MRI scanning, and complete radiotherapeutics. The Emergency Department includes the region's only Level II Trauma Center and 24-hour Pediatric ED, and also features a Chest Pain Clinic and "fast-track" area. In addition to a specialized inpatient oncology unit at HMC, the Kerman Regional Oncology Center, which is affiliated with the H.Lee Moffitt Cancer Center at the University of South Florida, offers community-based cancer treatment and research including national clinical trials, Central Florida's first bone marrow transplant program, Cancer Resource Library and the Breast Health Center. The Family BirthPlace and the area's only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit offer state-of-the-art obstetrical and newborn services. The Pediatrics Unit, called "Speediatrics," features a colorful racing-themed environment and the area's only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. All major medical and surgical services are available at HMC including: Halifax Heart Center (open heart surgery); Prenatal Diagnostic Center; inpatient/outpatient and partial hospitalization mental health services for adults and children; NeuroScience Center; Rehab Center; and full laboratory services.

HMC is a progressive leader in community wellness and education, offering community memberships in the Health Fitness Center, patient education, parenting education and support groups, Our Medical Library is a community resource serving the information needs of health professionals and the community. The collection currently includes more than 1,800 books, 225 current journals in print, audio, video and electronic formats, along with several years of back issues of most journals.
